Privacy Policy

Summary: Road Whispers uses GPS locally to play audio about nearby places. Your location is not shared. App and public-page usage metrics are anonymous and aggregated. The app works offline after catalogs are downloaded.

1. About this policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Road Whispers app and public website handle user information. The app is built for road trips and uses the device location to identify cataloged places nearby and play audio content about them.

2. Information the app uses

The app may use the following information:

3. Location and GPS

Road Whispers uses location to identify when the user is near a city or inside an area available in the catalog. Location is used to play audio automatically, avoid automatic repeats, register visited places, and display information inside the app.

GPS data is processed locally on the device. Road Whispers does not send raw GPS coordinates, routes, travel history, or real-time location to its own server, analytics tools, advertisers, or third parties. The user's location is not shared.

The app may request background location permission so it can keep working while the screen is locked during trips. The user can change or revoke that permission at any time in the operating system settings.

4. Local storage, sync, and backup

Visited places, the last city, first region, and preferences may be stored on the device.

When available, the app may also use operating-system features to sync or restore simple data across the user's own devices. On iOS, this may happen through Apple's iCloud Key-Value Store. On Android, this may happen through Android Key-Value Backup or an equivalent Google account/device feature.

That sync or backup is operated by Apple or Google infrastructure and is associated with the user's own account.

Road Whispers does not maintain its own server to query, receive, or sell this data.

5. Usage metrics

The app and public page may use Firebase Analytics, a Google Firebase service, to understand product behavior and improve the experience through anonymous, aggregated metrics.

Firebase Analytics may generate technical app or browser identifiers and collect usage, device, operating system, browser, and diagnostic information according to Google/Firebase policies. This data is used for aggregated metrics and not to identify individual routes.

These metrics may include events such as app opens, viewed screens, narration start and stop, downloaded catalogs, places marked as visited, audio starts, trip data import or export, and preference changes.

On the public page, metrics may include visits, traffic source, viewed sections, scroll depth, clicks on iOS or Android download buttons, clicks on social links, contact, terms and privacy, and demo video playback events.

When an event involves a city or place, the app may send aggregated information such as code, city name, and region. The app does not send the GPS coordinates used to detect that city.

6. Offline use and downloads

The app downloads manifests, catalogs, and audio so content can work offline during trips. These downloads may access public servers or CDNs only to retrieve the required files.

Content downloads do not require the app to send your location to the server. The decision to play audio happens on the device.

7. Purchases

The app may offer in-app purchases, such as individual regions or content packages. Purchases made through the App Store or Google Play are processed by those stores. Road Whispers does not receive or store credit card data.

8. Data sharing

Road Whispers does not sell personal data. Data may be processed by services required for the operating system, app stores, Apple or Google backup/sync mechanisms, anonymous analytics tools such as Firebase Analytics, legal compliance, or protection against fraud and misuse. The user's location is not shared.

9. Retention and deletion

Locally saved data, such as visited places, can be deleted by the user in the app settings. Data synced or backed up by the operating system also follows the rules and controls of the user's Apple, Google, or applicable service account.

10. Security

The app aims to store only the information needed for its operation. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, but reasonable measures will be adopted to reduce risks.

11. Children

Road Whispers is not specifically directed to children. The app may be used on family trips, but it does not intentionally collect data from children.

12. Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as the app evolves. The update date will be adjusted whenever relevant changes are made.
